Welcome to the website of the Paluch Lab at the Laboratory of Molecular Cell Biology at UCL London.

Research in the Paluch lab focuses on the basic principles underlying cellular morphogenesis. Cell shape is defined by cellular mechanical properties and by the cell’s physical interactions with its environment. Thus, biophysical approaches are essential to understand cell shape. We combine classical cell and molecular biology with biophysical experiments and modelling to investigate animal cell shape control. Our research directions span the basic biomechanical principles of cell shape regulation, and the mechanisms driving specific cell deformations, such as those occurring during cell division and migration.
